Sarovar Mess

A simple Andhra meals spot that truly lives up to its "home-style food" promise without stretching your budget.
1 May 2026
On 01 May 2026, my second day in Vijayawada led me to Sarovar Mess, a place that proudly carries the tagline "Inti Taraha Bhojanam." Thankfully, this wasn't just marketing. The meal genuinely felt close to home.
I ordered the Veg Meals (₹140), which included Pappu, Dondakaya Vepudu, Vonkaya Tomato Curry, Pulihora, Appadam, Sweet, Hot Rice topped with Podi and Ghee, Rasam, Sambar, Perugu, and authentic Vijayawada-style Ulavacharu. Considering the price, the variety and quality were genuinely impressive.
The Pulihora was satisfying without being overpowering, and the curries complemented the meal well. The combination of podi mixed with hot rice and ghee easily became one of the highlights of the meal.
The sweets were slightly dry, but they didn't affect the overall experience much.
The biggest surprise was the Ulavacharu. It's not something you usually expect to be included in a ₹140 meal, especially in an air-conditioned dining space, and it was prepared in proper Vijayawada style.
The ambience felt warm and homely, almost like having lunch at a grandmother's house. The service was humble, friendly, and welcoming throughout the meal.
Parking is available, but there is no wheelchair accessibility. As always, kitchen hygiene is something you should personally check before dining.
The total bill came to ₹140.
