Penam - Village Style Dosa

3.5

A decent tiffin spot where chutney and ponganalu stand out, but pricing feels a bit high.

13 March 2026

I visited Penam to try their tiffin menu. The place may look simple and appealing at first glance, but the experience had a mix of good and average elements.

We started with the Erra Karam Palyam Dosa. It was slightly thicker, similar to a homemade dosa, with a good layer of masala and nicely balanced flavors. A solid start.

Next were the Gunta Ponganalu, which turned out to be one of the better items. They were crispy on the outside and soft inside, exactly how they should be.

The Idly felt quite normal, nothing special to highlight.

We also tried the Erra Karam Akukura Dosa, which had a good flavor profile with a noticeable touch of ghee, making it enjoyable.

For beverages, we ordered Nannari, but the taste didn’t justify the quantity served, which was a bit disappointing.

Interestingly, the thick chutney served here stood out more than the tiffins themselves, adding more value to the overall meal.

The place itself is small, and while the food is decent, the pricing feels slightly on the higher side for a tiffin setup.

They do offer valet parking, which is convenient. As always, kitchen hygiene is something you should personally check.

The total bill came to ₹871 across two visits.
