Palakollu Dibba Rotti

4

Authentic coal cooked Palakollu dibba rotti with unforgettable taste but hygiene needs improvement.

25 November 2024

During the Mana Godavari Series, I visited a small spot near Maruti Theatre in Palakollu to try the famous Palakollu Dibba Rotti.

The preparation itself is very interesting and traditional. The dibba rotti batter is poured and cooked slowly over layers of hot coal, allowing it to cook evenly from all sides. Once done, it is cut into thick pieces and served hot with chutney.

The texture was soft inside with a slightly crisp outer layer, and the taste was absolutely next level. The smoky flavor from the coal cooking adds a unique depth that makes it stand out from regular tiffin items.

What made the experience even better was pairing the dibba rotti with bellam panakam. The combination of the savory rotti and the sweet jaggery drink worked surprisingly well.

However, hygiene is definitely a concern at this place, so visitors should keep that in mind before trying it.
