Nagaram Garajilu

4.5

A crispy village delicacy from Nagaram that represents the hard work and tradition of Godavari artisans.

19 November 2024

I explored Nagaram, a small village famous for a unique traditional sweet called Pichuka Gullu, also known as Garajilu.

These snacks are light, crispy, and mildly sweet, making them very easy to eat. The texture is the highlight. They are thin, crunchy, and slightly sugary, which gives them a simple yet addictive taste.

What makes Nagaram Pichuka Gullu special is not just the taste but the community behind it. A large part of the village depends on preparing these sweets for their livelihood. Families work together to prepare, fry, and package them.

The sweets are usually packed in bundles of 15 pieces and shipped to different parts of India, allowing more people to enjoy this traditional Godavari delicacy.

Another surprising part is the price. Each piece costs just ₹5, making it both affordable and nostalgic for many people.

Supporting these local artisans helps preserve this traditional sweet and sustain the village economy.
