Kaalinga Restaurant

3.5
A nostalgic Vizag tiffin spot serving hot poori and thick pesarattu, though the vada needs improvement.
25 June 2025
I visited Kaalinga Restaurant in Allipuram, Vizag after a random cab driver confidently recommended it. Without overthinking, we decided to try it. From the overall vibe and crowd, it felt like this place has been around for more than 20 years and still maintains a loyal customer base.
Fortunately, we found seats quickly and ordered poori, vada, upma, and pesarattu.
The poori arrived hot, fluffy, and perfectly fried. Once paired with the curry, it became clear why even a stranger would recommend this place with such confidence.
The pesarattu was served thick like a proper dosa, not the thin watery version you see in many places. It tasted even better when eaten together with upma, making it a satisfying combination.
The vada turned out to be the weakest dish of the meal. While the outside was crispy, the inside felt undercooked, which affected the overall experience. The chutneys and sambar were average.
To finish the meal, we had tea served in a steel glass, which added a simple, homely touch to the experience.
Overall, the place delivers solid traditional tiffins with a nostalgic local restaurant vibe, even though a few items could improve.
The total bill came to ₹330.
