Itlu Bobbatlu

1

A creative take on bobbatlu that struggles to match the authenticity and execution.

5 March 2026

I visited Itlu Bobbatlu, a place known for its variety of “bobbatlu” options. But after trying them, the experience raised a simple question: if it tastes like chapathi, can we still call it bobbatlu?

We started with the Poornam Bobbatlu (₹45). Traditionally, bobbatlu is made with jaggery filling, but here the jaggery version costs an extra ₹35, which felt unusual. The taste didn’t match the classic expectation.

Next was the Gulab Jamun Bobbatlu (₹55), one of their experimental versions. The concept sounded interesting, but it didn’t really deliver the feel of a proper bobbatlu.

We also tried the Jaggery Curd (₹60) served in a clay pot. This was actually decent and slightly reminded me of junnu, making it one of the better items here.

The place offers several other varieties like coconut, chocolate, and more, but whether they truly feel like bobbatlu or something else is something you’ll have to decide for yourself.

One major concern was that no bill was provided even after asking, which is not a good sign.

As always, kitchen hygiene is something you should personally check.

The total bill came to ₹275.
