House of Dosas

2.5
Overhyped tiffin spot with small portions and inconsistent flavors despite a few decent items.
9 September 2025
I visited House of Dosas in Banjara Hills. The place is known for its ₹916 Gold Dosa, which caught attention on social media, but that was out of my budget. Instead, we decided to try a few regular tiffins and ended up ordering items worth ₹650.
First, we tried the Dip Idly (₹150). Based on the reels, I expected a ghee soaked idly style preparation, but what arrived was fresh idly topped with palli chutney, extra ghee, and podi. It was not bad, but it didn’t match the hype surrounding the dish.
Next was the Tawa Idly (₹140). This turned out to be crispy on the outside, flavorful, and served hot, making it clearly better than the dip idly.
The Udapettina Karam Dosa (₹140) was a steamed dosa style preparation. Because of the steaming method, it lacked the typical dosa texture. The karam and chutney also felt underwhelming, which made the dish forgettable.
We also tried a Plate Idly, which was decent and straightforward.
Finally, the Erra Karam Dosa with Bombay Chutney (₹130) had a surprising presentation. I expected the Bombay chutney to be served on the side, but instead it was spread directly on top of the dosa along with the erra karam, which didn’t work well for me.
Overall, the portions felt small, the taste was inconsistent, and the experience ended up being more frustrating than satisfying.
The total bill came to ₹650.
