A mixed experience where the Thai curry disappoints but the dum rice with chicken curry steals the show.
23 June 2025
I visited Arey at The District, Financial District, Hyderabad. The experience turned out to be a mix of hits and misses, with some dishes performing really well while others fell short.
We started with Veg Green Thai Curry. Unfortunately, this dish was disappointing. The color looked unusual, the gravy lacked proper flavor, and the vegetables were not cooked well. The only positive part of the dish was the jasmine rice, which had a pleasant aroma.
My friend, who is very particular about his diet, ordered the Tandoori Chicken Tikka Salad. Being a fitness enthusiast, he literally counted calories and initially ate only one piece, leaving the rest aside. I tried one piece too, and it turned out to be juicy, tender, smoky, and surprisingly good. Later, he ended up finishing the rest himself.
I also ordered a beer, which was properly chilled and satisfying.
The real highlight of the visit was the Dum Rice with Chicken Curry. My friend strongly recommended it, saying it was the best he had tried in any restaurant. After tasting it, I understood why. The chicken was spicy, perfectly cooked, and had strong “nattu kodi” style flavors, making it the standout dish of the meal.
One thing to note is that portion sizes are just enough for one person, so sharing may not work well.
The total bill came to ₹1318, but after using the District app discount, the final amount paid was ₹922.
